Hyde sparkled on bonfire night to keep the pressure on at the top of the table as they ran out comfortable winners in this first ever meeting between the 2 sides.
After a slow opening it was the home side who opened the scoring as debutant Shelton Payne, on loan from Chorley, raced onto a super through ball from Danny Broadbent and rounded Jorg Stadleman in the visitors’ goal.
Histon nearly equalised straight from the kick-off when Omar Riza tried an audacious lob from the halfway line, but the ball bounced off the bar and over.
Another debutant Tom Fisher then hit the bar from a Danny Hall knock down and Gianluca Havern’s follow-up was blocked by a hand but referee Mr Whiteley waved away the appeals.
It was the visitors who started the second half brighter without really threatening but it was Hyde who extended the lead when Payne’s mis-hit cross was horribly misjudged by Stadleman who was left red faced when the ball sailed in.
Danny Broadbent then had an effort saved before Gianluca Havern beat Stadleman to the punch on 71 minutes to head in a Chris Worsley free-kick.
To their credit Histon were still trying to play but they were undone again after a lovely passing move ended with a first time left wing cross from Broadbent being tucked home by substitute Matthew Berkeley. David Carnell was rarely tested in the home goal, though he had to save smartly from Daniel Holman towards the end as he got free of the defence.
