David Carnell

David Carnell

Date of birth:
Debut: 12th August 2006, Kettering Town v Hyde
Previous clubs include: Curzon Ashton, Stalybridge Celtic

One of several players who followed manager Gary Lowe from Curzon Ashton to Hyde in the summer of 2011, David’s currently in his second spell with the Tigers, having started the 2006 – 2007 season at Ewen Fields. And to the supporters’ delight, he’s returned as a much better goalkeeper. A good shot-stopper and confident on crosses and high balls into the box, David’s performances behind a solid back line mean that clean sheets are no longer a rarity for the Hyde defence.

While at Curzon Ashton, David was instrumental in the 8 game run to the FA Cup second round in 2008, which included a famous 3 – 2 win against League Two side Exeter City.

As well as Curzon, David’s also turned out for Oldham Town and fellow Tameside rivals Stalybridge Celtic.

Ashley Frith

Date of birth:
Debut:
Previous clubs include: Glossop North End

Young goalkeeper formerly of Glossop North End, as well as the Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers youth academies.

Defenders

Josh Brizell

Date of birth: 15th October 1991
Debut: 14th November 2011, Hinckley United v Hyde
Previous clubs: Rochdale

A young full-back, Josh is formerly of Rochdale where he played alongside Callum Byrne in the Dale’s reserve and youth teams. He found himself without a club at the start of the 2011 – 2012 season when the Tigers came calling, and after a period regaining match fitness he forced his way into the first XI.

As comfortable attacking as he is defending, Josh is a thoroughly exciting young prospect to watch, and scored his first goal for the club in the 3 – 1 derby victory at Stalybridge Celtic on New Year’s Day 2012.

Adam Griffin

Adam Griffin

Date of birth: 26th August 1984
Debut: 22nd August 2011, Hyde v Hinckley United
Previous clubs: Oldham Athletic, Chester City, Oxford United, Stockport County, Darlington

With nearly 250 Football League appearances under his belt, Adam brings a wealth of experience to the Hyde team. Able to operate anywhere down the left-hand side, he’s just as important to the Tigers’ attack as he is the defence.

After being a regular at Oldham Athletic, Adam had loan spells at Oxford United and Stockport County, before joining the latter permanently in August 2006. He was a member of their 2007 – 2008 League 2 promotion winning squad and, either side of a season with Darlington, was named the 2010 – 2011 Stockport player of the year. Amid boardroom and managerial changes at Edgeley Park, Adam wasn’t offered a contract at County and their loss has been Hyde’s gain ever since.

Danny Hall

Danny Hall

Date of birth: 14th November 1983
Debut: 3rd September 2011, Hyde v Harrogate Town
Previous clubs: Oldham Athletic, Scarborough, Shrewsbury Town, Gretna, Chesterfield, Darlington, Crawley Town, Forest Green, Stockport County

Signed half a dozen games into the 2011 – 2012 season, Danny proved to be an instant hit at Hyde with some assured performances at the back and an impressive 3 goals in his first 5 league appearances. And it wasn’t just the Tigers who were impressed – Danny was named September’s Blue Square Bet North player of the month in recognition of the brilliant start he made to his Hyde career.

A local lad, Danny has a wealth of Football League experience with Oldham Athletic, Shrewsbury Town and Chesterfield and has played in the Scottish Premier League for Gretna. Most recently he was a member of Crawley Town’s 2010 – 2011 Conference-winning squad, but spent half of the season on loan at Forest Green. He began the 2011 – 2012 season with a short spell at Stockport County before Gary Lowe brought him to Ewen Fields.

Gianluca Havern

Gianluca Havern

Date of birth: 24th September 1988
Debut: 13th August 2011, Hyde v Worcester City
Previous clubs: Stockport County, Radcliffe Borough, Ashton United, Mansfield Town, Mossley, Ashton United

Like teammate Ryan Crowther, Gianluca joined the Tigers from Ashton United in the summer of 2011 and also began his career at Stockport County, where he progressed through the club’s youth system to make his debut – and score the winning goal – against Brentford in May 2008.

He was released by County in January 2009 as part of a cost-cutting exercise at Edgeley Park, but rejoined the Hatters on non-contract terms after 6 months with Mansfield Town. Half a dozen appearances followed before once again falling victim to the financial problems at Stockport and being released.

Gianluca’s next step took him to Mossley, and after a string of impressive performances in his first month he moved to Ashton United. He spent the rest of the season at Hurst Cross before joining Hyde the following summer, where he’s quickly become a fans’ favourite on and off the pitch.

Andrew Pearson

Andrew Pearson

Date of birth: 29th December 1989
Debut: 13th August 2011, Hyde v Worcester City
Previous clubs include: Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Altrincham, Rhyl

After being released by Wigan Athletic in 2009, where he was a regular for the Latics’ youth and then reserve teams, Andrew joined Altrincham for his first taste of non-League football. After a handful of appearances for the Robins, he was released from Moss Lane and joined Rhyl where he spent a season and a half in the Welsh Premier League and the Cymru Alliance.

He was brought to Hyde by Gary Lowe in the summer of 2011 and his performances at centre-half, alongside occasional appearances at right full-back and central midfield, impressed the management enough for Andrew to be offered a contract by the club.

Andrew actually started playing football as a striker, before moving into central midfield when he joined Bolton Wanderers as youngster and then playing in defence at Wigan. His move further and further down the pitch was complete when he wore the goalkeeper’s jersey following an injury to David Carnell in a Cheshire Senior Cup match against Chester, but the Hyde fans are happiest to see him dominate in his usual position at centre-half.

Midfielders

David Birch

David Birch

Date of birth:
Debut: 13th August 2011, Hyde v Worcester City
Previous clubs include: Curzon Ashton

Hyde FC club captain, and one of the many players Gary Lowe brought with him from Curzon Ashton in the summer of 2011.

An unspectacular but essential player, David’s ability to both break up opposition attacks and launch Hyde’s means that he’s one of the first names on the teamsheet.

David leads by example, and his never say die attitude mixed with his short passing game make him a vital cog in the centre of the Tigers midfield.

Callum Byrne

Callum Byrne

Date of birth: 5th February 1992
Debut: 9th April 2011, Hyde v Hinckey United
Previous clubs: Rochdale

Callum was originally brought to the club on loan from Rochdale with a month of the 2010 – 2011 season left and the Tigers languishing in the relegation zone. But his performances from midfield under the management of Steve Halford and Scott McNiven helped spur the Tigers onto a miraculous escape from dropping into the Evo-Stik League.

To Hyde’s surprise, Callum was released by Rochdale during the summer and, with a glowing reference from the board, was immediately snapped up by new manager Gary Lowe.

His range of passing and bursts forward from midfield mean that Callum’s a real fans’ favourite at Ewen Fields, and his first goal for the club – a wonder strike in a local derby win at Droylsden – helped cement his position in the supporters’ affections.

Ryan Crowther

Ryan Crowther

Date of birth: 17th September 1988
Debut: 13th August 2011, Hyde v Worcester City
Previous clubs: Stockport County, Liverpool, Stalybridge Celtic, Ashton United, Fleetwood

Following 9 years of learning his trade as a winger at Stockport County, where he progressed from the youth setup to being the club’s youngest ever first team captain at the age of 17, Ryan was signed by Liverpool after a successful trial with the European giants. Although he never appeared for the first team, Ryan was a regular in Liverpool’s 2007 – 2008 Premier Reserve League winning side before leaving Anfield by mutual consent in 2009.

Following trials with AFC Bournemouth, Stockport and Grimsby Town, Ryan dropped into non-League and had spells with Stalybridge Celtic and Ashton United before joining the Tigers, where his ability to both create and score goals showed supporters exactly why he was given a chance by a Premier League club at such a young age.

After a string of impressive performances in a Hyde shirt, Ryan caught the eye of Fleetwood Town. He joined the Cod Army in November 2011 but rejoined the Tigers on loan just 2 months later.

Ashley Kelly

Date of birth: 22nd December 1988
Debut: 17th December 2011, Hyde v Vauxhall Motors
Previous clubs include: Oldham Athletic, Leigh RMI, Barrow, Salford City, Curzon Ashton, Chester

Midfielder most recently with Chester.

Tunji Moses

Date of birth:
Debut: 10th September 2011, Workington v Hyde
Previous clubs include: Oldham Town, Salford City, FC United of Manchester

The son of Manchester United legend Remi, Tunji’s playing style has plenty in common with his dad’s. A tough tackler and a physical presence on the pitch, he’s also capable of some neat passing which make him such an asset in central midfield.

In the years prior to joining Hyde, Tunji spent a year at FC United of Manchester after manager Karl Marginson had been impressed with his performances for the likes of Salford City, before he took a break from football in 2010.

Away from football, Tunji’s also played roller hockey – a sport in which his dad is now a hugely successful coach – for Macclesfield Meltdown.

David Poole

Date of birth: 12th November 1984
Debut: 7th November 2011, Hyde v Blyth Spartans
Previous clubs: Manchester United, Yeovil Town, Stockport County, Droylsden

Former Manchester United trainee signed from Droylsden.

Sean Williams

Date of birth: 20th January 1992
Debut: 29th October 2011, Harrogate Town v Hyde
Previous clubs: Stockport County, Vauxhall Motors

Young midfielder signed from Vauxhall Motors.

Harry Winter

Date of birth: 10th June 1989
Debut: 17th December 2011, Hyde v Vauxhall Motors
Previous clubs: Trafford, Northwich Victoria, FC Halifax Town

Midfielder recently signed from FC Halifax Town. Currently also signed on with Matlock Town.

Chris Worsley

Date of birth:
Debut: 13th August 2011, Hyde v Worcester City
Previous clubs include: Curzon Ashton

A tough-tackling midfielder who joined from Curzon Ashton in the summer of 2011. A constantly improving player, his bursts forward often cause problems for the opposition.

While at Curzon, Chris scored in their famous FA Cup win against League Two side Exeter City.

Strikers

Matthew Berkeley

Matthew Berkeley

Date of birth: 3rd August 1987
Debut: 29th November 2008, Gateshead v Hyde
Previous clubs: Gretna, Workington, Altrincham, Droylsden, Leigh Genesis, Mossley, The New Saints

In his second spell with the Tigers after a brief period at Ewen Fields during the 2008 – 2009 season, striker Matthew rejoined the club in the summer of 2011 from Welsh Premier League side The New Saints.

With over half a dozen different clubs to his name by the age of 24, plenty of managers have seen potential in Matthew. And they include Lester Morris, the head coach of Saint Kitts and Nevis, who called him up for the Caribbean island nation’s World Cup qualifiers after a prolific start to the 2011 – 2012 season at Hyde.

Matthew has turned out for several other of the Tigers’ rivals, including Altrincham, Workington, Droylsden, Leigh Genesis and Mossley, and began his career at Gretna.

Danny Broadbent

Date of birth: 2nd March 1990
Debut: 13th August 2011, Hyde v Worcester City
Previous clubs: Huddersfield Town, Rushden & Diamonds, Gateshead, Harrogate Town, Frickley Athletic, Curzon Ashton

A strong, powerful striker who, after several appearances as a substitute, marked his full debut for Hyde by winning a penalty and scoring a goal in a 2-0 win at Gloucester City and has been a regular in the starting XI ever since.

Danny started his career at Huddersfield Town where he made half a dozen appearances for the first team and was named League 1 apprentice of the year at the prestigious 2008 Football League Awards. After loan spells at Rushden & Diamonds, Gateshead and Harrogate Town, he was released by the Terriers and joined Harrogate on a permanent basis, scoring against Hyde in a 2 – 0 win at Wetherby Road in August 2009.

Later that season, Danny joined Frickley Athletic, initially on loan, before signing for Curzon Ashton to play for Gary Lowe, who he followed to Ewen Fields in August 2011.

Scott Spencer

Scott Spencer

Date of birth: 1st January 1989
Debut: 13th August 2011, Hyde v Worcester City
Previous clubs: Oldham Athletic, Everton, Yeovil Town, Macclesfield Town, Rochdale, Southend United, Lincoln City

Few players have had a more spectacular start to their Hyde careers as Scott Spencer. With goals in each of his first 9 appearances for the club, he netted 13 times by the time Staveley Miners Welfare’s defence was the first to prevent him from scoring, a month and a half after his debut.

His eye-catching displays, including a 4-goal haul against Corby Town, earned Scott a call up to the England C squad, and have shown why Everton signed him for £220,000 as a 17-year-old from Oldham Athletic. Unfortunately his career for the Toffees never took off, but Scott went on to gain Football League experience with loan spells at Yeovil Town and Macclesfield Town before signing for Rochdale on his release from Goodison Park in the summer of 2009.

Spells at Southend United and Lincoln City followed, before Scott turned down offers from elsewhere to sign for the Tigers in time for the 2011 – 2012 season.
