Wakefield v Hyde United Friday 20th March 7.45 KO

The young tigers were buzzing after the win over Farsley and came into this game full of confidence and hoping for a good start to the weekend.

The pitch was hard and bobbly, and the Wakefield players were from the land of the giants, but surely Hyde could deal with a team who play long ball? After 2 mins a long throw into the box was flicked into the goal. 1 – 0
6 mins gone and a free kick into the box eventually landed at the feet of TWO Wakefield players, and one shot home. 2 – 0
The young tigers were shell shocked and couldn’t clear their heads, Wakefield were dominating the game and hit the post in the 20th min. Hyde eventually cleared their heads, and after a tactical change made their 1st chance but Tyson put the ball wide.

Half Time Wakefield 2 – 0 Hyde Utd

The young tigers were given the full hairdryer treatment and told to get back out there and show some pride.

Sadly the game was over after 4 mins of the 2nd half, another long throw wasn’t dealt with and Wakefield scored a third. 3 – 0
This was the time for the Hyde players to be brave and try to play their football, but they were sucked into Wakefields game of long ball as they scored a 4th. 4 – 0
At least Hyde got a consolation goal as Baldwin scored. 4 – 1

Full Time Wakefield 4 – 1 Hyde Utd

The young tigers need to learn to perform away from home as they do at home, unless this problem is addressed, they will always struggle to win the title.

Hyde United v Farsley Celtic Wednesday 12th March KO 7.45

Another home game for the young tigers following numerous postponements, but it didn’t get any easier. The champions from last year were in town and previous games always produced fireworks!!

The young tigers knew they had to play well, as Farsley had a good passing team and every player would have to play at 100% to get a result.
They started the game brilliantly and after only 6 mins were awarded a penalty as Barnet tricked his way into the box and was bought down. Shevlin, who was made captain recently stepped up and calmly slid the ball home. 1 – 0

The game was being played at a frantic pace from both sides and Igenoza and Barnet bought good saves from the Farsley goalie, but they wasn’t having it their own way as Burns made some brilliant saves. Hydes defensive unit were also playing well, especially Flint and Buchary with some important interceptions. Farsley, then launched a ball forward and Burns was slow to come for the ball, as the Farsley forward nipped in and scored. 1 – 1 Farsley seemed to gain confidence and dominated until half time.

Half time Hyde 1 - 1 Farsley

Hyde came in to a roasting off their manager and told they needed to take control of the game, but were given bad news when Tolsen gave Colgan orders to take off Igenoza. He needed him for the bench for the Tigers fight against relegation on Saturday. Atherton came on for Igenoza quickly followed by Walsh for Barnet who had picked up a dead leg.
With both main forwards off the pitch, Farsley sensed blood and began to pour forward and Hyde were thankful to Burns who made good save after save. Hyde needed to stem the flow and eventually made a positional change and put 5 men in midfield. This seemed to work and they began to gain control again, then in the 80th min Fullalove raiding down the right swung in a long looping cross that went over the keeper into the top corner. 2 –1
As Farsley pushed for the equalizer, Hyde were catching them on the break, and had at least 3 opportunities to kill the game off.

Full Time Hyde United 2 - 1 Farsley

A good result and a brilliant game of football. The young tigers know that if they can get results like this against Farsley at home, they shouldn’t lose another home game this season!!

Ossett Town v Hyde Utd Monday 23rd Jan ko 8pm

Having beat Ossett at home, the young tigers had to play them away and the job wasn’t made any easier with a swirling wind and cabbage patch pitch.

This game can be described in a few words………….a war of attrition!!!!

The ball spent more time in the air than on the deck…mainly due to the state of the pitch and the ossett team fighting for every ball to try and gain revenge for the defeat last time out at Ewen Fields. The first half ended without a goal and without any chances!!

Half Time Ossett Town 0 – 0 Hyde

Ossett started the second half sharper and got the breakthrough with a sloppy goal from Hydes standards. 1 - 0
The only other piece of action in the second half involved an Ossett player getting sent off with a second yellow for attempting a pitiful dive.

Final Score Ossett Town 1 - 0 Hyde Utd

Not much of a game – but the young tigers battled well throughout the game although chances were at a premium.

Hyde Utd v Ossett Town Wednesday 18th Feb

The young tigers were chomping at the bit and looking to get their season under way again after numerous cancellations. A mid-week game on a fantastic pitch was the perfect opportunity.

Ossett began the brighter and a sharp shot in the 10th min was brilliantly saved by Shantry low down to his left. The young tigers realized Ossett were going to be no push overs and finally started to play, a shot by Fullalove whistled over the bar and in the 30th min got the breakthrough. A free kick was set up and taken by Traynor, as he drilled a superb ball into the box - a diving header from Tyson flew into the net. 1- 0
The young tigers were now buzzing and another free kick from Ingham crashed against the crossbar as they dominated the rest of the half but couldn’t get that second goal.

Half Time Hyde 1 – 0 Ossett Town

Colgans half time team talk focused on playing exactly the same way, but be wary of an early Ossett onslaught, because they really hadn’t played bad in the first half. True to form Ossett came out with a flea in their ear from their manager and tried to take control of the game. A good move ended with a shot from the edge of the box, but Shantry watched the ball go wide.
Another fantastic move from Hyde in the 65th min ended with a flick from Tyson straight into the goalies arms. In the 70th min Steel was bought on for Atherton to inject some pace down the right and a couple of mins later Baldwin entered the fray for the cramping Ingham.
The game was still tight and Hyde just couldn’t get the elusive second goal and Swanick came on for the tiring Tyson. Then in the 85th min Steel picked up a loose bouncing ball and fired a brilliant volley into the roof of the net. 2 – 0
To rub salt into the wounds Howard slotted home a 3rd into injury time. 3 - 0

Full Time Hyde Utd 3 - 0 Ossett Town

Fantastic win for the young tigers, they now know with the spring weather coming they are all going to be involved in the coming games. The spirit and attitude is really good and hopefully this will continue until the end of the season.
